Statewide Permission Slip
This year
Catholic High School has three math teams: Geometry, Algebra
II, and Comprehensive (all classes above Algebra II).
The co-sponsors of the teams are Mrs. Linda Burkavich and Mrs.
Susan Poyer. Math teams meet once a week to practice for
upcoming tournaments.
There are three travel tournaments that we plan to attend this
year (two are local):
Vestavia Hills HS (Birmingham area)
Saturday, December 9th,
2006
Grissom HS (Huntsville)
Saturday, January 13th,
2007
Alabama State Mathematics Competition (Huntsville)
Saturday, March 31st,
2007
There is a fourth tournament that
we participate in right here at school:
American
Mathematics Competition
Wednesday, February 21st,
2007
The AMC is
a nationally recognized tournament.
Last year, one of our students,
Michael Helmbrecht,
qualified for and participated in the second round: the
AIME, which is by
invitation only. Congratulations Michael!
We have a
lot of fun getting together to discover new ways of problem
solving. The best fun of all is traveling to area
tournaments to compete with other teams! We hope you
will come to Catholic High and see what we’re all about.
New members are always
welcome!
