Foreign Language
Catholic High School offers four languages:
French, Spanish, German and Latin. Latin will place emphasis on
primary source translation instead of conversational skills.
Additional language classes may be available through our Dual
Enrollment program with UAH.
Level One
The language is introduced through a
proficiency-based program that helps the student to develop the
skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Cultural
themes and basic conversational patterns are taught.
One credit
Level Two
Material from the first level is
reviewed and a more detailed study of vocabulary and grammar is
included. More complex structures of the language along with the
intermediate conversational skills are presented and cultural
themes of the first level are expanded.
Prerequisite: C average in Level One or
Placement Test
One credit
Level Three
More advanced conversational skills are
emphasized. The finer points of grammar are given due attention.
Translation skills are developed. Significant historical figures,
authors and the literature of the target language are studied.
Prerequisite: C average in Level Two.
One credit
Level Four
Continuance of skills emphasized in
level three with emphasis on history, music, art, literature and
refinement of grammatical structures.
Prerequisite: C average in Level Three
