Catholic High School students in the AP
Biology class performed a hands-on experiment under the
direction of professional scientists and science educators as
part of the “Apple for Teacher” program sponsored by the
HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. The experiment,
“Enzyme Catalysis: Enzyme Kinetics of Alkaline Phosphatase,”
was conducted in the Catholic High School biology lab on
September 23 by visiting instructors Dr. Bob Zahorchak,
BioTrain Administrator for HudsonAlpha; Dr. Pam Twigg,
Assistant Professor at the Laboratory for Structural Biology
at the University of Alabama in Huntsville; Kay Swanson, an
educator with the Huntsville City Schools, and Amy Eskridge,
an undergraduate biology major at the University of Alabama in
Huntsville. Brian Finzel, Head of the Catholic High School
Science Department, coordinated the visit.
